If you live in an area that is prone to power outages, investing in a standby generator is one of the best decisions you can make to ensure the safety and comfort of your family. Home Generator Reviews recommends the Generac 5837 standby generator as an entry level unit that will cover the basics in the event of a power outage. Considering it is priced at well under $2,000 on Amazon right now, it’s an excellent model that will give you the peace of mind of automatic backup power without a huge price tag. 7,000 Watts is enough to power essentials like lights and the most important appliances/systems you need to keep running, and the Generac 5837 will do the job nicely. Generac standby generators are known for their unsurpassed reliability and for being quiet. However, generators do make some noise and you should consider this when selecting a location.

Home Generator Reviews from current owners of the Generac 5837:
This generator can’t be beat for an entry level unit – in both price and power output. It arrived at its destination exactly as AMAZON said it would, with a call before it arrived by a professional and courteous team. Once installed, working as described. I’ll never have to worry about a power outage again. I hope AMAZON continues selling this model.
Probably the best investment I ever made. For approx 2500-2800 installed. When power goes out, it is worth every cent.
Nice looking compact unit. Great price that includes auto transfer switch. The unit installed fairly easily and I have run a test and all worked well. Now I am waiting for my next power outage to see how well it performs.
It hasn’t had a real world test yet, but I did test to make sure it would run my lights, TV, computers, refrigerator, freezer.
Making the decision which generator to purchase can be very stressful. I finally decided that the 5837 would do everything that I needed. Sure, you can spend more but how often do you really use it. This unit made sense and after the installation I found it powered all my essentials. The installation went well and when I tested it for the first time a big smile came on my face. I guess it’s a man thing but my wife certainly was not complaining when she discovered she had TV, lights, refrigerator, sump pump, furnace and other electrical essentials at her disposal.
